  Species Description - Plants of moderate to robust stature, shiny, pale-green to golden, usually strongly flattened. Secondary stems erect, horizontally spreading, or pendent, sparsely to irregularly orregularly pinnate or bipinnate; paraphyllia none, few, or numerous, simple to branched-polymorphous. Branches blunt or tapered, sometimes flagelliform. Leaves mostly undulate, asymmetric, oblong-lingulate to oblong-ovate, acute or acuminate (or less commonly bluntly-pointed and apiculate); margins inflexed on 1 side near the slightly decurrent base, sometimes serrulate or denticulate; costa short and double or single, occasionally lacking; cells smooth, ± pitted, rhomboidal at the apex, becoming long-rhomboidal below, often subrectangular at the basal angles. Inner perichaetial leaves oblong-ovate, variously acuminate, with costa short, single, indistinct, vanishing well below the leaf middle. Setae short or elongate; capsules immersed to exserted, erect and symmetric, subglobose to oblong-cylindric; annulus none; exothecial cells subquadrate, trapezoidal or rectangular, evenly thin-walled or ± thickened at the corners; peristome usually double, the exostome teeth narrowly lanceolate, smooth or papillose, sometimes ± striolate below; segments rudimentary and fugacious or linear, ± keeled, and perforate, rising from a low basal membrane; cilia none. Calyptrae generally cucullate, mostly naked.
