    Species Description - Robust perennials; culms 100-200 X 0.5-1 cm, abundantly branched to form a large, bushy, compound inflorescence 15-50 X 10-15 cm. Individual racemes 1.5-3.5 cm long; spikelets paired, the sessile one 2.5-3.3 mm long, linear lanceolate, the pedicellate one rudimentary or absent; rachis of racemes terminating in a very well-developed dark-colored, pedicellate spikelet 3.5-4.3 mm long. Fr (Jun); clearings in and near Saul, common along landing strip.
