    Species Description - Plants filiform, dark-green to brown. Secondary stems up to 15 cm long. Stem leaves wide-spreading, 1.1-1.7 x 0.2-1.3 mm long, sometimes hair-pointed; margins serrulate throughout; cells 1-7-papillose; apical cells 14-26 x 1.5-2.5 µm; median cells 10-29 x 1.5-2.5 µm; basal cells 2.5-8 x 1.5-5.5 µm. Branches up to 3 cm long. Branch leaves 11-32 x 1.5-2.5 µm; median cells 14-32 x 1.5-2.5 µm; basal cells 3-9.5 x 2.5-6 µm.

    The plants are very slender and hang in loosely tangled long, soft, masses. The leaves are serrulate at the margins and have seriate papillae on the cells.

    Pendent from twigs and branches of shrubs and trees at moderate altitudes (1000-2300 m); Hidalgo, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, Veracruz.—Mexico; Central America; Dominican Republic; Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi; eastern Asia.
