Description
Species Description - Shrubby or scandent plants, to 10 m tall; major stems segmented into long, cane-like internodes separated by ca. 3, closely set leaves or bladeless sheaths; leaves and usually solitary inflorescences mostly on short, clustered branches arising from sheath axils distally on major stems. Leaves: blade ovate or narrowly ovate, with ± markedly displaced apex, usually >3.5 cm wide, grayish-green abaxially. Flowers dirty yellowish to brownish; caducous outer staminode purple.
Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Jul); common in dense primary forest as well as in secondary scrub and riverside thickets
