    Genus Description - Rosulate herbs, often rather robust. Juvenile foliage often with variegated leaf blades. Inflorescences with bracts usually densely clustered and spiralled or laxly arranged and then usually distichous. Flowers: corolla tube usually very long and narrow; outer staminode solitary; ovary with 3 fertile locules. Fruits usually 3-seeded.
