  • Description

    Species Description - Herbs, to 3 m tall. Leaves horizontally oriented; petiole short, ca. 1 cm long; blade dark green, with reddish-brown margin, the abaxial surface of midrib yellow-green. Inflorescences terminating stems; bracts obliquely oriented, in one plane, thin, open, orange; rachis reddish. Flowers: perianth orange, the tepals with dark green tips. Immature fruits light green at base, dark green at apex with orange spot in center of upper surface, the mature fruits blue.

    Distribution and Ecology - Fl (Feb, Mar, Aug); growing scattered or in small clumps, usually at forest margins. Balisier, balisier-grand-bois.
