    Species Description - Caespitose annuals; culms 15-30 cm tall, erect to arching. Leaves mostly 10-15 cm X 1.8-2.4 mm. Involucral bracts 5 or 6, the longest 6-10 cm X 1.8-2.2 mm, divergent. Inflorescences sessile, capitulate, conical, with 1-4 highly compressed, densely-flowered spikes; central spike conical to cylindrical, 6-7 X 4-5 mm, with ca. 200-300 spikelets; spikelets 1.8-2.3 X 0.6-0.8 mm, the scales hyaline with green-veined margin. Flowers bisexual, stamens 2. Achenes lenticular, elliptic, 0.8-1 X 0.4 mm, pale brown.
