Description
Genus Description - Vines or terrestrial herbs. Inflorescences in terminal or axillary thyrses of cincinni, sometimes piercing leaf sheath. Flowers actinomorphic or slightly zygomorphic; sepals and petals free; stamens 5 or 6, with short, glabrous filaments and large anthers opening by a terminal pore. Fruits loculicidal, with 3 fleshy-leathery valves. Seeds 1-5 per locule, embedded in a fleshy aril, the hilum oblong.
