Description
Species Description - Leaves loosely erect to flexuose or circinate, 5-8 mm long, linear-subulate from an erect, oblong base that is shiny when dry; margins plane or narrowly revolute, serrulate to the middle or less; costa excurrent, rough at back above; upper cells u p to 25 µm long, 5-7 µm wide, bearing 1-3-lobed papillae at the upper ends; basal cells up to 100 µm long, 12-15 µm wide, narrower toward the margins. Synoicous or dioicous. Setae up to 1 mm long; capsules erect, 2-5 mm long, ± symmetric, smooth when dry; exostome teeth widely spaced, perforate at the middle, smooth or nearly so; endostome rudimentary.

The linear-subulate stem leaves, long-capillary perichaetial leaves, and immersed, smooth capsules are taxonomically significant.

Distribution
On trees (especially tree ferns), occasionally on rock, in montane forests; Chiapas, Durango, Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Veracruz.—Mexico to South America; West Indies; perhaps also in Africa and Indonesia.
