Description
Species Description - Plants small (1—2 cm high), in rather loose, green or yellow-green tufts, tomentose below, simple or sparsely branched. Leaves flexuose or circinate, not brittle at the tips, 3-5 mm long, abruptly linear-lanceolate from an oblong, sheathing base; margins narrowly revolute below, serrate above the shoulders, with paired teeth; costa excurrent; upper cells rectangular, up to 25 µm long, 5-7 µm wide, ± obscure, distinctly papillose at the ends; inner basal cells laxer, linear, up to 120 µm long, 10 µm wide, those at margins of shoulders pellucid, firm-walled. Synoicous. Setae straight or curved, 4-8 mm long; capsules suberect, 1.5 mm long, subglobose and small-mouthed, furrowed; operculum convex, shortly and bluntly pointed; exostome teeth 300-350 µm long, papillose below, smooth or faintly vertical-striate above, sometimes shallowly 2-3-forked above; endostome rudimentary or much reduced, about 1/3 or less the length ofthe exostome, with segments ±keeled, 2- or more-forked, yellowish, smooth or nearly so,. Spores subreniform, verruculose, 35-40 µm.

Bartramia microstoma is rather like a small version of B. ithyphylla but lacks the high, shiny leaf base and has firm, though pellucid cells at shoulder margins. Bartramia glauca has less flexuose, glaucous leaves with a shorter base, and the endostome is even more reduced.

Distribution
On soil and rocks at middle to upper elevations; Chiapas, Distrito Federal, Durango, Michoacan, Morelos, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Puebla.—Arizona to Guatemala.
