Description
Genus Description - Stemless or stemmed herbs of variable habit. Leaves rosulate, fasciculate, or distributed along stem, polystichous (all species of the Guianas except T. usneoides) or .distichous; blade mostly narrowly triangular, linear, or less often strap-shaped. Inflorescences various, usually compound, of distichously flowered spikelets or sometimes reduced to single polystichously flowered spike by reduction of spikelets to single flowers, the floral bracts conspicuous to minute. Flowers sessile or short pedicellate; sepals convolute, usually symmetric, equal, free, or the posterior ones connate; petals free, not bearing ligules on claw. Seeds with coma at base, this always white, straight.
