    Species Description - Sterile plants 15-50 cm tall, variable in size and color, flowering plant to 100 cm, ± lustrous-green. Leaves thin, coriaceous, 10-47 cm long; sheath suborbicular to oblong, 4.5-24 cm long dull-brown towards base; blade strap-shaped, J broadly rounded or obtuse and apiculate, or blade very narrowly triangular and attenuately acute, 1-4.5 cm long, sparsely lepidote. Inflorescences 1- or 2-branched, with 2-12 distichously arranged, widely spaced lateral branches, the peduncle 10-70 cm long, the spikelets subdensely and distichously 6-27-flowered, complanate, linear-lanceolate, 2.5-9.5 X 0.5-1 cm, the floral bracts ecarinate, broadly ovate, 0.4-0.7 cm long, sparsely to subdensely appressed-lepidote abaxially, mostly greenish, sometimes yellow-brown or dull purple-rose. Flowers appressed or divergent, sessile; sepals slightly to strongly asymmetrical, apically winged, 0.4-0.6cm long, the adaxial ones bluntly carinate near base, free; petals spreading, barely exserted beyond calyx, yellow- brown or dull purple -rose. Flowers appressed or diveregent, sessile; sepals slightly to strongly asymmetrical, apically winged, 0.4-0.6 cm long, the adaxial ones bluntly carinate near base, free; petals spreading, barely exserted beyond calyx, yellow.
