    Species Description - Sterile plants 8-25 cm tall, the flowering plant to 40 cm,forming subtubular or narrowly funnelform rosette, lustrous-green, usually not cretaceous. Leaves thin, 15-25 cm long,ovate-or linear-lanceolate, the outer ones mostly strongly reduced, sheath - like and actue, sparsely lepidote or subdensely and minutely lepidote; blade broadly rounded, apiculate. Inflorescences unbranched or 1- branched, when branched with 2-6 polystichously arranged, lax lateral branches, the peduncle mostly erect, 16-25 cm long, the spikelets laxly and polystichously 3-18 flowered, elongate, 2-8 x 0.9 -1.3 cm, the floral bracts ecarinate, broadly ovate, 0.5-0.7 cm long, glabrous abaxially. Flowers suberect or divergent, sessile; sepals slightly asymmetrical, 0.6 - 0.8 cm long, ecarinate, free, veined; petals with minute whitish blade.
