  Genus Description - Plants small to fairly robust, densely tufted. Leaves imbricate or contorted when dry; costa strong, often long-excurrent; cells rhomboidal above, short-rectangular below. Setae elongate; capsules suberect; operculum usually small; peristome double, the endostome imperfect, consisting of an irregular basal membrane with segments none or rudimentary.
