Description
Species Description - Differing from B. alpinum and B. muehlenbeckii as follows: Leaves commonly red, more strongly concave, oblong or oblong-ovate, rounded or obtuse at the apex, narrowed at the base, with margins entire, nearly plane. Capsules with a slender neck tapered to the seta and nearly as long as the urn. Spores larger, 18 µm, papillose.

Distribution
On wet rocks by or in brooks; Baja California.—Mexico; coastal North America from British Columbia southward and inland to Montana and Missouri (habitat and range taken essentially from American literature).
