Description
Species Description - Plants small or minute, 2-12(-15) mm high, often producing filamentous, green brood bodies above. Leaves pale-green or yellowish, 0.5-1.7 mm long, elliptic to lingulate, rounded-obtuse; margins crenulate at the apex or sometimes nearly to the middle, plane or narrowly revolute below; upper cells near the apex 1-2:1, those at the widest part of the leaf 2-4:1. Dioicous or rarely monoicous. Setae slender, up to 7 mm long, orange to red-brown; capsules cylindric, brown; operculum conic. Spores 12-16 µm, papillose (granulose as seen by SEM).

Distribution
On wet soil, rocks, and stone walls; Coahuila, Distrito Federal, Jalisco, Morelos, Nuevo Leon, Nayarit, Puebla, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatan.—Mexico to northern South America and the West Indies; Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana; reported from Hawaii (Oahu).
