    Species Description - Usually epiphytic herbs. Stems short, densely rooted, the internodes short, (1)1.5-3 cm diam.; cataphylls lanceolate, (3)5-7 cm long, persisting semi-intact. Leaves rosulate with involute vernation; petiole (2)7-20(38) cm X (3)6-15 mm, bluntly D-shaped to sharply C-shaped in transverse section; blade broadly oblanceolate to elliptic, (22)40-103 X (7)11-52 cm; primary lateral veins 5-13 per side, uppermost sometimes merging into a collective vein in upper third of blade. Inflorescences with peduncle 26-86 cm long; spathe pale green, tinged with purple, 11-50 X 1.5-4.5 cm, reflexed, soon weathering, twisted, finally deciduous; spadix dark purple, 10-47 cm X 6-9(12) mm at base. Berries white at base, pale reddish purple to purple or white tinged with violet toward the apex, obovoid, 10 X 7 mm. Fl (Apr-Oct), fr (Feb, Apr, May, Aug); moderately common, mostly high in the canopy but seen occasionally on fallen trees.
