    Species Description - Rhizomes short, ascending, 1 cm thick, with linear, bicolorous scales 2-4 mm long at apex. Fronds pinnate for most of length but bipinnate at base, clustered, ascending, to 1.4 m long; petiole equalling or longer than blade, yellowish to ± brownish-red, glabrous, with prickles; blade suborbicular, glabrous, 50 cm wide, with 2-4 subsessile pinnae on each side of rachis and a similar terminal pinna; rachis glabrous, sometimes with papillae on wings; pinnae pinnatifid, the basal ones bipartite, the others lanceolate, 4-8 cm wide, with long attenuate, dentate apex; segments linear, straight or subfalcate, 4-8 mm wide; veins 1-furcate.
