Description
Species Description - Plants often brownish, up to 30 mm high. Leaves spirally contorted when dry, flexuose-spreading when moist, lanceacuminate from a clasping base; margins recurved below, denticulate above, bordered all around by long, narrow, yellowish cells; costa excurrent as a toothed awn; upper cells often 50 µm long. Propagula apparently none. Autoicous. Setae 2-4 mm long; capsules immersed to emergent, 2-3 mm long, pale-brown; operculum 1.25 mm long. Spores 15-25 µm. Calyptrae hispid above.

The leaves are oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, aristate because of the excurrent costa, and bordered by hnear cells.

Uncommon, on trees and shrubs at 2000-3500 m alt.; Michoacan and Oaxaca.—Mexico; Guatemala and Costa Rica; northern South America; Hawaii; Africa and Madagascar.
