    Species Description - Trunks to 2 m X 5 cm, the apex covered with white to cream-colored scales. Fronds bipinnate-pinnatifid, to 2 X 1 m; petiole brown-violet, becoming light colored upon drying, 60-80 cm long, with spines 2-4 mm long on lower or convex surface, with white to cream scales 10-12 X 3-4 mm on each side of petiolar groove; pinnae oblanceolate, 30-50 X 15-20 cm, the rachis beige to brown, with a few white scales at base, the adaxial surface with brown pubescence, the basal segments slightly reduced; pinnules lanceolate, deeply lobed, 5-9 X 1.2-2 cm, petiolulate, with short, sparse white hairs, the ultimate segments more or less falcate, the margins dentate. Sori round, numerous on each ultimate segment; indusia present. Rather common, along streams in lowland forest.
