    Species Description - Perennial herb, lacking stolons; flowering culms 2-10 dm tall, erect, unbranched. Leaf sheaths glabrous; ligule 0.3-1.5 mm long; blades linear, not distinctly distichous, flat or conduplicate, 6-25 X 0.4-1 cm, smooth, glabrous on the upper surface. Inflorescence obovate; main axis absent; primary branches 2.5-13 cm long; racemes 2, conjugate. Spikelets solitary, ovate or elliptic; 2.8-3.7 x 1.1-2.4 mm; upper glumes 2.8-3.7 mm long, 5-nerved; lemma of lower floret ovate to elliptic, chartaceous, 5-nerved, muticous, the palea absent; lemma of upper floret ovate or elliptic, cartilaginous, striate, yellow, 2.5-3.5 mm long, muticous.
