    Species Description - Annual herb, lacking stolons; flowering culms 2-6 dm tall, erect from the base, unbranched or sparingly branched. Leaf sheaths glabrous; ligule 2 mm long; blades linear to lanceolate, flat, 10-24 x 0.6-1.3 cm, scabrous and glabrous on the upper surface. Inflorescence ovate; main axis 6-10 cm long; primary branches 1-1.5 mm long. Spikelets paired, ovate, 3-3.5 x 3- 3.5 mm , with winged glumes and lemma to produce a circular spikelet; upper glumes 3-3.5 mm long, 3-nerved, broadly winged; lemma of lower floret ovate, 3-nerved, broadly winged, muticous, the palea vestigial; lemma of upper floret ovate to elliptic, coriaceous, smooth, yellow, 2-2.2 mm long, muticous.
