    Species Description - Perennial herb; flowering culms 4-14 dm tall, decumbent, unbranched or sparingly branched. Leaf sheaths glabrous; ligule 0.7-2.7 mm long; blades linear, mostly flat, 6-20 x 0.5-0.8 cm, smooth, glabrous on the upper surface. Inflorescence linear; main axis 10-30 cm long; primary branches 1-5 cm long. Spikelets solitary, elliptic, 2-2.5 x 1.3-1.8 mm; lower glumes 0.7- 0.9 mm long, faintly 3-5-nerved; upper glumes 1.7-2.3 mm long, 5-7-nerved; lemma of lower floret elliptic, 5-nerved, muticous, the palea fully developed; lemma of upper floret elliptic, indurate, rugose, yellow, 2.2-2.3 mm long, muticous or mucronate.

    Distribution and Ecology - Uncommon, found in open moist areas. Lameshur (B611), John's Folly (W528). Also on St. Croix and St. Thomas; throughout the tropics and warm-temperate regions of the world.
