    Species Description - Perennial herb; flowering culms 10-100 dm tall, erect to decumbent at the base, moderately branched. Leaf sheaths hairy, papillose, hispid or pubescent; ligule (0.3-)0.5-1.5(-2.6) mm long; blades lanceolate, ovate to linear, flat, (6-)9-19(-23) X (0.6-)1.2-3.4(-4.6) cm, smooth, hairy on the upper surface. Inflorescence ovate; main axis (5-)9-25(-35) cm long; primary branches 4-9 cm long, appressed to spreading. Spikelets solitary, obovate to elliptic, (3-)3.4-4.1(-4.3) x 2.5-3.2 mm; lower glume (1.2-) 1.5-2.1 (-2.7) mm long, 7-11-nerved; upper glume 3-4.3 mm long, 9-13-nerved; lemma of lower floret elliptic to obovate, 9-11-nerved, muticous, the palea fully developed; lemma of upper floret elliptic to obovate, indurate, smooth, brown, 2.9- 3.8 mm long, muticous.
