Description
Species Description - Cespitose annual herb; culms erect 5-40 cm tall, erect to spreading Leaf ligules 0.2 -0.3 mm long, ciliate; blades 2-8 x 0.2 -0.4 cm flat. Panicle 4-15 cm long, 1-12 cm wide, open, cylindrical to narrowly ovate; branches ascending (0.5 -) 2 - 8.5 cm long, spreading, with a few scattered hairs and sometimes with irregular glandular areas at base (at junction of culm axis). Spikelets (1-) 1.5 -2.2 x 0.9 - 1.2 mm, 4-8 flowered, ovate to oblong, reddish purple to greenish; pedicels 0.8 -4(-7) mm long, with few hairs; glumes 0.4 - 1.1 mm long, ovate unequal; lemmas 0.7 -1.1 mm long, ovate to broadly oblong, scaberulous along keel; apex truncate to obtuse; paleas 0.6-1.1 mm long, pectinate-ciliate along the keels, the hairs 0.3-0.5 mm long; anthers about 0.2 mm long, purplish. Caryopsis 0.3-0.5 mm long, ellipsoid, translucent, light brown.

Distribution
Occasional in open disturbed areas. Emmaus (A2000), Lameshur (A3210, B501). Also on St. Croix; native to the Old World, naturalized in the New World.
