  • Description

    Species Description - Perennial herb; culms 20-50 cm tall, ascending below from a knotty base. Leaves narrow; ligules 0.1-0.3 mm long, minutely ciliate; blades 50-150 x 0.5-1.5 mm, involute, with scattered, villous hairs, 2-4 mm long near base or sheath apex. Panicles 4- 15 x 1-4 cm, narrowly spreading. Spikelets 6-9 mm long, excluding the awns; glumes 4-8 mm long, the upper glume longer; lemmas 5-7 mm long, terete, the callus hairs about 0.5 mm long, the apex with elongate column or beak about 1 mm long, the awns 4-18 mm long.

    Occasional in rocky soils and on dry hillsides. Rosenberg (E3003), Bass Gut (Eggers s.n.). Also on St. Thomas; Cuba, Hispaniola, Lesser Antilles, and Venezuela.
