  Genus Description - Plants light-green to whitish, sometimes tinged with purple, occasionally forked, up to 3 cm high. Leaves crowded, erect to wide-spreading or squarrose-recurved, sometimes fragile, not channeled, hgulate from a narrowly obovate base, broadly acute to obtuse, entire or occasionally serrate at the tip; costa filling the upper part of the leaf, somewhat narrowed below the shoulders, consisting of 3-5 layers of leucocysts above and 2-4 below the median, triangular chlorocysts; in surface view chlorocysts reticulate, rectangular, the leucocysts also rectangular; lamina consisting of 4-12 rows of rectangular cells (sometimes elongate). Autoicous. Setae single, straight; capsules exserted, erect, symmetric, cylindric; operculum obhquely long-rostrate; peristome teeth often widely spaced, 8 or 16, lanceolate, entire, yellow or brownish-yellow, smooth or nearly so. Calyptrae cucullate.

• Discussion

  The leaves are not channeled or subtubulose, and they are strap-shaped (with parallel sides) above an expanded base. The capsules are erect and symmetric, and the peristome teeth are smooth or somewhat roughened, but not striate.
