Description
Species Description - Plants light-green to glaucous-brown, 1-3 cm tall. Leaves crisped (or sometimes only strongly flexuose), 6-9 mm long, long-lanceolate, with an apiculus of a single green cell; margins entire or denticulate near the apex; cross-sections near the alar regions showing 2 layers of leucocysts at the middle and 3-4 both above and below the chlorocysts at the thickest portion; in surface view chlorocysts loosely reticulate, about 7-10:1, the leucocysts in the upper median region quadrate to short-rectangular; lamina composed of 5-8 rows of long-rectangular to spindle-shaped cells. Setae 1.5-2 cm long; capsules strumose, slightly contracted below the mouth; annulus none. Spores 14-16 µm.

Leucobryum crispum has crisped leaves with a brownish sheen and long, rectangular or sometimes Spindle-shaped cells of the lamina.

On moist, decaying logs in cloud forests at elevations of about 2000 m; Chiapas (Linda Vista Tropical Biology Station, Pueblo Nuevo Solistahuacan).—Mexico to northern South America; West Indies
