Description
Genus Description - Shrubs, small trees, or lianas, armed or unarmed. Leaves alternate, simple, usually serrate or less often crenate or entire, petiolate; stipules minute and early deciduous. Flowers 5-merous, unisexual or sometimes bisexual, the staminate flowers in axillary cymose clusters, the pistillate solitary or a few in axillary cymes; calyx of free sepals; stamens as many as the sepals, inserted in the calyx tube, the anthers opening by longitudinal slits; ovary superior, l-locular, with a solitary, apically pendulous ovule, the styles 2. Fruit a fleshy to leathery drupe.
