Description
Species Description - Shrub 1-2.5 m tall; twigs cylindrical, slightly angled when young. Leaf blades 3.5-11 X 2-5.3 cm, obovate or oblongelliptic, coriaceous, glabrous, slightly glossy above, dull, lighter underneath, the apex short-acuminate, obtuse, acute, or seldom rounded or retuse, the base obtuse to nearly rounded, the margins entire, revolute; petioles 1-1.5 cm long. Flowers in short axillary cymes. Calyx nearly bell-shaped, ca. 4 mm long, minutely toothed; corolla yellow, 4-5-merous, trumpet-shaped, the tube 1-1.2 cm long, narrowed at base, the lobes ovate, ca. 2 mm long, spreading; stamens included; stigma green, included. Berry ellipsoid, 1-1.2 cm long, shiny, purplish black when mature. Seeds few, angled, lenticular, light brown, ca. 4 mm long.

Distribution
A common shrub of moist areas, especially along shaded roadsides. Road to Bordeaux (A3137), Center Line Road (A2391). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda; Greater and Lesser Antilles.
