Description
Genus Description - Shrubs or small trees, unarmed. Leaves alternate, pinnately compound; leaflets with numerous translucent oil glands; stipules wanting. Flowers bisexual, actinomorphic, in axillary or terminal, short panicles; calyx deeply 5-lobed; corolla of 4-5 free, imbricate or valvate, white petals; stamens 8 or 10, the filaments free; nectary disk annular; ovary 2-5-locular, each locule with 1 or 2 pendulous ovules, the style slender, the stigma capitate. Fruit a few-seeded berry with leathery skin and mucilaginous pulp.

A genus of about 12 species native to eastern Asia and the Pacific islands, a few species cultivated as ornamentals.
