Description
Species Description - Shrub 1-3 m tall, with multiple branches from base; twigs nearly cylindrical, dark gray, puberulent when young. Leaves opposite or subopposite, trifoliolate, slightly fragrant; leaflets 2 - 3(-5.5) x 1.2-2(-3.4) cm, rhombic to nearly ovate, coriaceous, glabrous, with numerous punctations, glossy above, the venation usually conspicuously lighter color, the apex obtuse to shortly acuminate, sometimes retuse, the base cuneate, the margins revolute, entire or crenate; petioles 5-18 mm long, puberulent. Flowers 4-merous, in terminal panicles 2-3 cm long with puberulent axes. Calyx ca. 3 mm long, glabrous or ciliate along margins; petals 1.5-1.8 mm long, obovate, punctate; stamens 8, the filaments slightly unequal, 1-1.2 mm long, the anthers ca. 0.6 mm long; ovary glabrous, the stigma papillate. Berry ellipsoid to globose, ca. 5 mm long, turning from green to purplish black.

Distribution
A common shrub of dry forests and scrub. Cob Gut (A4234), trail from Bordeaux to Lameshur (A3864). Also on Anegada, Jost van Dyke, and St. Thomas; Hispaniola and probably Puerto Rico.
