Description
Genus Description - Shrubs or small trees. Leaves coriaceous to chartaceous, entire; stipules small, interpetiolar, persistent. Flowers bisexual, 4-5(-6)- merous, actinomorphic, in axillary fascicles, sessile or short-pedicellate; calyx nearly cylindrical; corolla funnel-shaped or trumpetshaped, the lobes 4-5(-8), oblong, contorted in bud; stamens 4-5(-8), the filaments inserted on the corolla throat, the anthers exserted; ovary inferior, 2-carpellate, each locule with a single ovule, the style stout, the stigma bifid. Fruit an ellipsoid to nearly globose drupe of 2 pyrenes; seeds with a longitudinal fissure.
