    Species Description - Terrestrial erect or prostrate herb, 10-20 cm long; stems simple or branched from base, purplish or pinkish, pilose, rooting at nodes. Leaves opposite or ternate at the base of inflorescence; blades 1-5 x 0.6-2.3 cm, obovate to obovate-elliptic, membranous, glandular-dotted, densely pilose, 3-nerved, the apex rounded, obtuse, or acute, the base cuneate, the margins entire and ciliate; petioles slender, 4-20 mm long, pilose. Flowers with pilose peduncle, in terminal, slender, loosely flowered spikes, 4-14 cm long. Drupe ellipsoid-ovoid, black, glandular-papillose, ca. 0.5 mm long.

    In shaded areas and disturbed open roadsides. Road to Ajax Peak (A2657), Center Line Road by km 5.6 (A2418), White Cliffs (A2709). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Tortola; in Florida, Central America, the Greater and Lesser Antilles.
