Description
Genus Description - Spreading herbs, many-branched from a taproot; stems prostrate to erect. Leaves opposite or subopposite, with prominent linear raphides. Flowers small, in axillary or terminal panicles or pedunculate heads; bracts and bracteoles hyaline; calyx constricted above the ovary, the limb or upper portion (corolla-like) 5-lobed, variously colored; stamens 1-3, the filaments free; stigma capitate. Anthocarp dry, club-shaped, cuneiform or fusiform, 5-ribbed.
