    Genus Description - Trees or shrubs, glabrous or pubescent, usually with simple hairs. Leaves opposite, with translucent oil glands. Flowers small to medium, sessile, in axillary clusters; bracts and bracteoles persistent; hypanthium prolonged beyond the ovary, circumscissile at base; sepals 4; petals 4, white; stamens numerous, the filaments free, the anthers opening by longitudinal slits; ovary 2-locular, the locules with 1 or 2 ovules, the style filiform, the stigma punctiform. Fruit a 1- or 2-seeded berry, crowned by a rounded scar.
