Description
Genus Description - Shrubs or small trees, with simple and stellate hairs. Leaves 2-3-pinnate, imparipinnate; leaflets serrate, petiolulate. Rowers, medium-sized, 5-6-merous, bisexual or unisexual, pedicellate, in axillary, panicle-like inflorescences; calyx deeply lobed; petals free to base; stamens 10-12, the filaments connate into a staminal tube with appendages projecting beyond the anthers; nectary disk at base of ovary; ovary 3-6-locular, each locule with 2 ovules, the style columnar, with a 5-6-lobed stigma. Fruit a drupe, the stone 1- 5-lobed.
Distribution and Ecology - An Old World genus of 2-5 species, planted and naturalized elsewhere.
