Description
Genus Description - Shrubs or more commonly trees, glabrous or pubescent, usually punctate. Leaves petiolate; blades ovate or trilobulate, the apex obtuse to acuminate, the margin entire, often with abaxial foliar nectaries. Rowers large and showy, borne singly on axillary pedicels (sometimes aggregated apically), sometimes with bracteate articulation; involucel of 3 to many elements, sometimes subtended by trimerous nectaries; calyx truncate to 5-lobed; corolla white, yellow, or rose, with or without dark center; staminal column apically 5- dentate, usually included, pallid; style single, the 3-5 stigmatic lobes decurrent. Fruit capsular, 3-5-celled, coriaceous or ligneous, dehiscent or indehiscent; seeds several per locule, glabrous or pubescent.
