Description
Species Description - Subshrub 0.5-1 m tall, with distichous branching pattern and leaf arrangement, softly stellate-pubescent throughout. Leaf blades broadly ovate-elliptic, 2-5 x 1-3 cm, somewhat discolorous, soft-pubescent above and beneath, the apex acute or obtuse, the margins serrate-crenate; petioles 4-6 mm long. Rowers 1 or more per leaf axil; pedicels shorter than the petioles. Calyx 6-8 mm long, the lobes acuminate, ciliate; corolla slightly exceeding the calyx, white. Fruit apically pubescent; mericarps 5, 2-spined (the spines 1-1.5 mm long), blackish at maturity.

East End (A3214), Fortsberg (A4086), Lameshur (B632). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Virgin Gorda; the West Indies and Mexico to northern South America.
