plants are distinctive because of pale, yellowish to green, setaceous leaves, straight setae, erect, narrowly cylindric, smooth, yellow capsules, and red, long-rostrate opercula. The linear upper leaf cells aid in distinguishing this from species of Campylopus having two stereid bands in the costa.
Müller and Frahm (1987) have placed this species in Campylopodiella because of longer, annulate capsules and the structure of the costa (large dorsal and ventral hyalocysts, a median band of stereids, and 2-3 ventral stereids).
