Description
Genus Description - Herbs. Leaves opposite, deeply lobed, the lobes incised. Flowers bisexual, mostly lavender, produced in axillary glomerules or terminal spikes; calyx top-shaped, the lobes 5, subequal, awl-shaped with spiny apex; corolla tubular, bilabiate, the upper lip rounded or notched at apex, the lower lip 3-lobed; stamens 4, erect, didynamous, included. Fruit of 4, 1-seeded, oblong, or 3-angled nutlets.
