Description
Species Description - Shrub or small tree to 8 m tall; bark light gray, smooth; branches cylindrical, glabrous. Leaf blades 3.5-13 x 2-7 cm, ovate to broadly elliptic, chartaceous, not punctate, glabrous or with a few hairs, the apex long-acuminate, the base cordate, usually with a pair of glands at the junction with the petiole, the margins serrate; petioles 0.5-3 cm long; stipules 1-1.5 cm long, lanceolate-falcate, serrate. Calyx yellowish, the sepals 7-8 mm long, pubescent within, broadly ovate; petals yellowish, 3-3.5 mm long, lanceolate, pubescent, early deciduous; stamens numerous, the filaments glabrous, of unequal length; ovary ovoid to nearly globose, glabrous, the style elongate. Drupe globose, glabrous, 5-7 mm diam., black. Seeds ca. 1.5 mm long, angledellipsoid, light brown, smooth.

An uncommon tree of moist forests. Bordeaux Mountain (W218), Fish Bay (A2671). Also on St. Thomas; tropical America.
