Description
Genus Description - Herbs, shrubs, or small trees. Leaves paripinnate; leaflets numerous, opposite; rachis ending in a filiform segment; stipules deciduous; stipels minute. Flowers small to large, in axillary racemes, the bracts minute; calyx broadly bell-shaped, 5-lobed; corolla of various colors, the standard ovate to rounded, clawed at base, the wings and keel clawed, of similar length; stamens 10, diadelphous, bent at base; ovary stipitate, with several ovules, the style glabrous and incurved, the stigma capitate. Legume linear, nearly cylindrical, transversely septate, beaked at apex, dehiscent; seeds numerous, oblong-cylindrical, brown.
Distribution and Ecology - A genus of 50 species with pantropical distribution.
