    Species Description - Annual prostrate herb, to 20 cm long, many-branched from a taproot, pubescent to glabrescent; stems not rooting at nodes. Leaf blades 4-10 x 2-5 mm , oblong-elliptic, membranous, pubescent, the apex rounded or acute, the base rounded-cuneate, oblique, the margins serrate, especially toward apex; petioles 0.5-1 mm long; stipules minute, linear. Cyathia in pairs or clustered in leaf axils, cone-shaped, densely pubescent, on short peduncles; glands purplish, the appendages ovate, pinkish; ovary pubescent. Capsule pubescent, 3-lobed, ca. 1.1 mm long, not exserted from the involucre. Seeds ovoid to conical ca. 0.8 mm long, smooth, light brown.

    Distribution and Ecology - A common roadside weed. Gift Hill (A2482). Also on St. Croix and St. Thomas; Florida, Mexico to South America including the West Indies.
