Description
Species Description - Plants up to 14 mm long, erect to decumbent, often radiculose along the stems. Short, stalked, multicellular, filamentous gemmae in leaf axils. Leaves up to ca. 2.8 mm long, lanceolate to narrowly oblong, acute, sometimes obtuse and apiculate; margins entire, often crenulate to serrulate at the leaf apex, bordered on all laminae, the border bistratose on at least the ventral and dorsal laminae, ending below the leaf apex and often above the insertion on dorsal laminae; costa strong, ending 3-16 cells below the apex; dorsal lamina usually rounded proximally, not decurrent, sometimes ending above the insertion; vaginant laminae ± 1/2 the leaf length, equal; cells variable, square to oblong, pentagonal, or hexagonal, (13-)18-27(-32) x 9-14 µm wide, larger and oblong along the costa, particularly in the lower half of the vaginant laminae, up to 70 µm long Rhizautoicous. [Sporophytes terminal. Setae sometimes several, 5-6 mm long; capsules straight, cylindric, 1-1 5 mm long; opercula long-beaked, equaling the µm; peristome teeth red, paler and spirally thickened at the apex. Of the species belonging to this complex, F. dissitifolius has the smallest leaf cells and as variable in shape as those of F. mollis.

Distribution
On soil and rock (mainly limestone) along streams and in moist, shaded areas at low elevations (up to ca. 800 m ) ; Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, San Luis Potosi, Tabasco, Veracruz. -Mexico; Guatemala; Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico; Brazil.
