    Species Description - Tree to 20 m tall and 45 cm diam.; bark brown and rough. Leaves opposite; blades 9-20 x 5-11 cm, coriaceous, elliptic or obovate, glabrous, with numerous translucent dots, the apex rounded or nearly truncate, often retuse, the base cuneate, obtuse or rounded, the margins entire and revolute; petioles stout, ca. 1 cm long. Flowers 2.5-3 cm diam., bisexual and staminate, clustered in leaf axils. Calyx pale yellow, 0.8-1.2 cm long; petals 6, obovate, ca. 2 cm long, white; stamens free, the anthers bright yellow, linear; stigma peltate. Fruit globose, tan, 7-15 cm diam.; edible pulp light orange. Seeds 2-4, 5-8 X 3-5 cm.

    Uncommon in moist forests. Coral Bay Quarter along Center Line Road (A2842). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Tortola; throughout the West Indies, Mexico, Central America and Trinidad.
