Description
Genus Description - Vines, lianas, trees, or shrubs. Leaves alternate. Flowers bisexual, produced on terminal, coiled, branched cymes; calyx with 5, deeply parted, awl-shaped lobes; corolla trumpet-shaped, the tube slightly swollen, the lobes reflexed or spreading; stamens inserted on tube, not exserted; ovary 2-carpellate, each carpel with 2 chambers, the style simple, 2-lobed, not exserted. Fruit fleshy, globose or 2-4-lobed, with 4 or fewer nutlets.
Distribution and Ecology - A genus with approximately 150 species with pantropical distribution.
