    Species Description - Erect subshrub to shrub 1-1.3 m tall; stems densely pubescent. Leaf blades 1-7.5 x 0.6-2.8 cm, lanceolate, chartaceous, the upper surface pilose to strigose, eglandular, the lower surface densely sericeous, the apex acute to acuminate, the margins entire to crenulate; petioles sericeous, (0-)l-5 mm long. Inflorescence diffuse, a leafy nearly scorpioid cyme, main branches commonly 10-20 cm long, with heads sessile, single or paired in the axils of to 20 leaves spaced about 1 cm apart. Heads 11-15-flowered, 7-8 mm tall; involucre 5-6 x 3-4 mm , ca. 3-seriate; involucral bracts strigose to weakly so with age, loosely appressed, greatly spreading in fruit, the outer involucral bracts 2-3 X 0.4 m m, linear-lanceolate, the apices attenuate, the inner involucral bracts 5-6 x 1 mm , lanceolate; receptacle weakly dome-shaped, 1-1.5 mm broad; corollas 4-5 mm long, white, glabrous. Achenes 2 mm long, sericeous, also commonly glandular; pappus brownish, the outer series ca. 0.7 mm long, the inner series 4-5.5 mm long.

    A common weed of roadsides to wet shaded banks. Coral Bay (A3139), Rosenberg (B303), Bordeaux (A3855). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Virgin Gorda; Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico.
