    Genus Description - Small to large trees. Leaves compound, alternate, odd-pinnate; leaflets entire or crenate. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, 4-5- merous; calyx with short lobes; corolla with free petals, much longer than the sepals; stamens 8-10; ovary 4-5 locular, with short cup-shaped or annular nectary disk at base, each locule with a single ovule, the styles 4-5, the stigmas spatulate. Fruit a fleshy, ellipsoid to nearly globose drupe.

    Distribution and Ecology - About 12 species native to southeastern Asia and tropical America. A few species cultivated throughout the tropics.
