Description
Species Description - Terrestrial fern 0.3-0.7(-l) m tall. Rhizome ascending to erect, clothed at apex with dark golden-brown, narrowly lanceolate scales mostly 3-3.5 mm long, these long-filamentous at apex. Fronds closely tufted, to 1 m long; stipes dark lustrous reddish brown, about as long as the blades or shorter. Blades lanceolate to oblong-triangular, 20-95 X 10-30 cm, 2(-3)-pinnate to 2-pinnate-pinnatifid, the lower surface covered with a whitish powder; segments lanceolate to elliptic, usually at least sharp-pointed and often more or less sharply serrate or deeply incised; tissue firmly herbaceous. Sporangia numerous, often nearly concealing the undersurface of the pinnules; spores prominently ridged.

Distribution
Occasional in rocky banks and in crevices of old buildings and ruins. Along road to Bordeaux (A3132), upper slopes and summit of Bordeaux Mountain (P40437), southeast of Peter Peak (P40430). Also on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and Tortola; tropical and subtropical America and Africa, naturalized elsewhere in warm regions.
